Popular species of Hoya (wax flower) - care guide

Specii populare de Hoya (floarea de ceara)

Hoya propagation

Hoya can be grown both from seeds and cuttings. The easiest and fastest method is the last one. A branch with 1-3 nodes is cut from the mature plant. Remove the leaves from the base of the cutting, use a rooting hormone, if desired, then insert it into sphagnum or substrate with a low content of organic matter, moist (eg: 3 parts perlite and 1 part peat). Hoya cuttings can also be left in water until roots appear - this takes an average of 3 weeks.

Water and light

Most Hoya species prefer moist substrate, but without massive water retention. For hoya, a substrate that ensures proper water drainage will be used. Reduce watering in the winter months.

Hoya prefers less strong morning sun. Light is an important factor that ensures re-blooming. Most hoya species are epiphytes and grow well when they are hung under trees, where the light is filtered and the temperature is slightly lower.
