Chrysalidocarpus lutescens (Areca palm) is a very elegant palm that adapts very well to the apartment or house environment, being one of the most appreciated and often purchased indoor plants. Thanks to the leaves, they provide an exotic atmosphere to any well-lit room.

Its popularity as an office and houseplant grew (and is maintained today), in part, due to experiments conducted by NASA and Dr. Wolverton in the 1980s.

Watering

Watering must be regular, but limited, so as not to suffocate the roots of the plant. It can be said that watering every 5-7 days is often necessary - but you should make an evaluation every season, to evaluate the drying time of the substrate.

More or less every two weeks, you can give it a liquid fertilizer, diluted in the watering water.

Autumn and winter. You start to reduce watering because the water requirement starts to decrease. It is watered only when the soil is dry up to a few centimeters.

In general, it could be said that watering 2 or 3 times a month should be enough. But this fact depends on the place where it is placed: if it is placed next to a sunny window, its needs will definitely be greater.

In this season, the addition of fertilizers will be stopped, starting from October until March - April, because the plant is not in the growing season.

Cause: no doubt it lacks light or has been watered excessively.

Solution: brighter location and reduced watering.

2. The leaves turn yellow

The reason: if it continues to produce new leaves, this action is part of its natural cycle - trees, even green ones, lose their leaves in order to renew them.

Solution: they can be left to dry and fall, or they can be cut, when the visual appearance is important.

However, if no new shoots appear and if the palm tree looks pathetic , it is recommended to check the watering, drain the water and possibly replace the substrate or fertilize with a liquid fertilizer every two weeks - depending on the situation.
