Olive tree (Olea europaea) – Mediterranean symbol of longevity, beauty, and resilience

Olea europaea, known in Romania as olive tree or olive plant, is an evergreen shrub or tree native to the Mediterranean regions. It is valued both for its ornamental appearance—with narrow, elegant, silvery leaves—and for its cultural and symbolic significance. In the right climate, it can become a central feature in any Mediterranean- or rustic-style garden.

The olive tree grows slowly but steadily, eventually forming a dense, well-branched crown. It is an ideal choice for decorating terraces, courtyards, or sunny gardens, but it can also be grown in a pot and overwintered indoors in areas with cold winters.

• Watering: moderate—water only when the substrate is thoroughly dry

• Soil: well-drained, slightly calcareous, with a neutral or slightly alkaline pH

• Fertilizing: monthly from March to September, using fertilizer for Mediterranean plants or fruit trees

The plant requires a deep, stable pot when grown in containers. During winter, it is essential to protect it from frost, especially in its first few years.
