Aeschynanthus gracilis 'Mira', also known as the "Lipstick plant" due to the shape of its flowers, is a perennial epiphytic plant valued for its vibrant flowers and decorative foliage. It is ideal for adding a touch of color and exotic charm to indoor spaces, being a relatively easy houseplant to care for.

The leaves are long, slender, and lance-shaped, with a glossy texture and dark green color. They are arranged alternately along the thin stems, creating a lush and attractive appearance.

The flowers are tubular and appear in clusters at the tips of the stems. Their color is a deep red, and their shape gives them the appearance of lipstick, hence the common name. The flowers are very attractive and can bloom throughout the year under suitable conditions.

Care:

  1. Light: The plant prefers indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the delicate leaves. It is ideal to place it near an east or west-facing window.

  2. Soil: Prefers well-drained, airy soil rich in organic matter. A mix of orchid soil combined with perlite or pine bark is ideal to ensure proper drainage.

  3. Watering: Water moderately, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soaked. It is important to let the soil dry slightly between waterings. During winter, reduce the watering frequency slightly.

    • Temperature: Aeschynanthus gracilis 'Mira' prefers temperatures between 18-24°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C and protect the plant from cold drafts.

    • Humidity: The plant prefers a high level of humidity. In dry air conditions, mist the leaves periodically with water to maintain the necessary moisture.

    • Fertilizing: Fertilize the plant every 4-6 weeks during the active growing period (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer for indoor plants. Reduce fertilizing during autumn and winter.

    • Propagation: Aeschynanthus is propagated by stem cuttings. Take cuttings about 10 cm long, remove the lower leaves, and plant them in well-drained soil. Keep the soil slightly moist until rooting occurs.
