Smochin - Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey' (Hardy Fig) D15
Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey' - a variety with two fruiting periods per year, noted for the special, sweet-aromatic taste of its fruits and very high yield. The fruits are reddish-purple, weigh 45-55 grams, and can be stored commercially ("long shelf life") or processed.
'Brown Turkey' fig was awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society with the "Award of Garden Merit".
Garden hardiness. It withstands down to -20°C without significant losses. Hardiness increases as the plant matures, the root system develops, and the branches thicken. It is recommended to protect the plants in the first years by wrapping them with microporous foil (frost protection foil, Agril-type foil, etc.). Cases of frost on the fig cause damage to the above-ground parts - but the root remains alive, and the plant regrows in spring.
Resistance to diseases and pests. Figs are considered ‘pest free’.
Parthenocarpic variety - it is self-fertile and does not require a pollinator.
