Sempervivum 'Coconut Crystal' (Planta Urechelnita)
Sempervivum 'Coconut Crystal' is an interesting and attractive variety of Sempervivum, known for its fleshy leaves and distinctive appearance. This perennial plant is ideal for rock gardens, borders, pots, and other decorative arrangements due to its ability to adapt to various environmental conditions and its sturdy look.
Among the main qualities of the plant are: anti-inflammatory, healing, antibiotic, calming, diuretic, antispasmodic, and worm-expelling properties.
Description:
- Leaves: The leaves are fleshy, thick, and arranged in compact rosettes.
- Rosettes: The rosettes are dense and can reach a diameter of 5-10 cm. As the plant matures, the rosettes can form colonies by producing offsets at the base.
- Flowers: The flowers appear on tall stems, about 15-20 cm high, and are pink or light red in color. Blooming usually occurs during summer. After flowering, the rosette that bloomed dies, but the plant continues to live through its offsets.
- Size: Sempervivum 'Coconut Crystal' forms rosettes about 5-10 cm in diameter, and mature plants can reach a height of 15-20 cm when flowering.
Care:
Light: Sempervivum prefers sunny places with direct sunlight. It can also tolerate partial shade, but the leaf colors will be more intense if the plant receives enough light. Indoors, place the plant near a south- or west-facing window.
Soil: It prefers well-drained, sandy or rocky soil. A mix of soil for cacti and fleshy plants, combined with coarse sand or gravel, is ideal to prevent excessive water retention.
Watering: Watering should be moderate. Sempervivum is drought-resistant and does not require frequent watering. In summer, water the plant when the soil is completely dry. In winter, reduce watering to a minimum. Water the plant at the base to avoid wetting the leaves, which can lead to fungal diseases.
Temperature: Sempervivum prefers moderate temperatures but can tolerate a wide range, from extreme heat to cold. It is frost-resistant and can withstand temperatures below zero degrees Celsius.
Humidity: The plant prefers a dry and well-ventilated environment. Avoid high humidity, which can encourage fungal diseases.
Fertilizing: Fertilize the plant once at the beginning of spring with a diluted liquid fertilizer for cacti and fleshy plants. Excessive fertilizing is not needed. A light feeding once a year is sufficient.
Propagation: Sempervivum is easily propagated by separating the offsets that appear at the base of the mother rosette. The offsets can be taken and planted directly in well-drained soil. Procedure: Carefully separate the offsets from the mother plant and plant them in a pot or directly in the garden, making sure the roots are well covered with soil.
Pot diameter: 12 cm
Height including pot approx. 12 cm
The leaf color changes depending on the intensity of the light they are exposed to.
