Zmeur gigant - Rubus x loganobaccus 'Loganberry' (fructe xl, fara tepi)
Rubus loganobaccus 'Loganberry' is a cross between a cultivar of the North American blackberry (Rubus ursinus 'Aughinbaugh') and a cultivar of the European raspberry (Rubus idaeus 'Texas Early'), accidentally created in 1881 in California. Over time, the hybrid has been improved, becoming today one of the most valuable varieties on the market. Commonly, it is called "Giant Raspberry," like Rubus loganobaccus 'Loganberry'.
The plant has earned a reputation as a super fruit – the fruit is tasty, large (up to 4 cm!), the yield is abundant, and the content of vitamins and antioxidants is high.
In terms of production, it is considered an incredible shrub, as the fruits appear and ripen in stages starting in May, and in mature specimens, fruiting continues until late autumn. The quantity of fruit is considered very large – yields from specialized farms reach 27 tons per hectare. In private gardens, yields of up to 35 kg per mature plant have been reported. The fruits are firm and have a long shelf life.
It withstands temperatures down to -25 °C. For abundant fruit production, it should be planted in a sunny area, without neglecting irrigation.
Rubus x loganobaccus 'Loganberry' is a thornless variety. It grows exceptionally fast, each vine reaching up to 3 m in a single season (even without irrigation).
