Rosemary in pot - Rosmarinus officinalis

Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) is an aromatic evergreen shrub from the Lamiaceae family, native to the Mediterranean region. It is valued both as a culinary plant and as an ornamental or medicinal plant.

🔹 Botanical characteristics

• Habit: Branched shrub, 0.5–2 m tall, woody stems, and gray bark.

• Leaves: Needle-like, 2–4 cm long, dark green on the front and whitish-silvery on the back, with an intense aroma.

• Flowers: Light blue to violet, occasionally white or pink; generally appear in spring and autumn, arranged in clusters at the base of the leaves.

• Fruits: Small, dark brown nuts.

• Light: Full sun; flowering and maximum volatile oil content in bright areas.

• Soil: Light, well-drained, calcareous or sandy soil; tolerates poor soils.

• Temperature: Hardy down to –8 °C; in cold regions, protection or pot cultivation is recommended.

• Pruning: Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and stimulate young shoots.

1. Pot with large drainage holes and substrate for Mediterranean plants.

2. Water sparingly, only after the top layer dries out.

3. In winter, keep it in a bright place above 5 °C.

4. Light fertilization in spring with low-nitrogen fertilizer.
