Pelargonium Royal Rosebud 'Red Pandora' is a variety of rose geranium (Pelargonium) from the "Rosebud" or "Tulip-flowered" group, named for the distinctive shape of its flowers, which resemble rose or tulip buds. Unlike common zonal geraniums, whose flowers open fully, the flowers of "rosebud" varieties remain partially closed, giving a dense and elegant appearance.

Description:

  • Flowers: The main feature of 'Red Pandora' is its unique flower shape. These are semi-double to double, with tightly packed petals forming small "bouquets" reminiscent of rose or tulip buds. The flowers are grouped in dense, umbrella-like clusters and bloom abundantly over a long period, from spring until late autumn.
  • Leaves: The leaves are dark green, glossy, with a rich texture that creates a beautiful contrast with the red flowers. They are usually zonal type, meaning they may have a darker area in the center of the leaf.
  • Growth habit: It has an upright and compact habit, though it can also be a good specimen for containers, where it will display its flowers beautifully. It is considered a vigorous growing plant.
  • Size: Reaches an average height of about 30-40 cm.
  • Winter hardiness: It is not frost-hardy and is grown as an annual in cold climates or must be overwintered indoors in a bright, cool place.

Key features:

  • "Rosebud" or "tulip-flowered" flowers: This is the defining characteristic of the variety, offering a special and elegant look, distinct from traditional geraniums.
  • Long flowering period: Blooms continuously throughout the warm season.
  • Suitable for arrangements: Once cut (if the knobby base of the stem is removed), the flowers last well in water, making them excellent for bouquets and floral arrangements.
  • Easy to care for: Like most pelargoniums, it is a relatively easy plant to grow, preferring sun and well-drained soil.

Care and requirements:

Requires a sunny spot with at least 6 hours of direct light daily and well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. Watering should be moderate, keeping the soil slightly moist with breaks between watering to avoid excess moisture. It is rain-resistant but sensitive to temperatures below 5°C, needing winter protection (moving indoors or storing in a cool, dry place). Removing faded flowers encourages continuous blooming.

Flower color may vary slightly depending on location and light conditions. This variety is valued for its stability in cultivation and ability to withstand challenging conditions.

Pelargonium 'Red Pandora' is an excellent choice for those who want a geranium with a unique appearance and spectacular flowering, adding a touch of refinement and color to balconies, terraces, or gardens.

Note: Due to international transport and adaptation to the new environment, geranium leaves may show defects or partially lose leaves. These changes are normal and temporary and do not affect the overall health of the plant. Plants grow quickly and recover easily if given optimal conditions.

The plant may arrive to you with or without flowers, but it is capable of blooming throughout the summer.
