Pelargonium ‘Contrast’ (muscate cu frunze colorate)

Pelargonium 'Contrast' is a zonal geranium variety appreciated for its decorative foliage and vibrant flowers. This perennial plant, with a compact habit, is ideal for growing in pots or planters, bringing extra color and texture to green spaces.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

• Leaves: Rounded, with a green center, reddish-brown zonal markings and a narrow pale yellow edge, providing a great visual contrast.

• Flowers: Deep red, grouped in inflorescences, appear in summer, adding a colorful accent to the ornamental foliage.

• Dimensions: The height and width of the plant can reach up to 0.5 meters, fully developing within 2–5 years.

🔹 Growing conditions:

• Light: Prefers exposure to full sun or partial shade, being suitable for south or west facing locations.

• Soil: Requires fertile, well-drained soil with neutral to alkaline pH; adapts well to calcareous, loamy or sandy soils.

• Watering: Moderate; it is recommended to avoid excess moisture to prevent the occurrence of fungal diseases.

• Temperature: Being a plant sensitive to frost, it is grown outdoors in the warm season, and kept in protected spaces in winter.

• Propagation: Can be done through soft cuttings in spring or early fall.

• Pruning: Regular removal of wilted flowers stimulates abundant and prolonged flowering.

• Susceptibility: Can be affected by pests such as aphids, whiteflies or thrips, as well as fungal diseases in conditions of excessive humidity.
