Lonicera caprifolium - Caprifoi
Lonicera caprifolium, also known as Italian honeysuckle or European honeysuckle, is a perennial climbing plant valued for its highly fragrant flowers. This honeysuckle species produces tubular flowers in shades of white and yellow, blooming from spring through summer. The flowers are followed by small, round red fruits that add visual interest but are not edible.
The foliage is semi-evergreen or evergreen depending on the climate, with opposite oval leaves that taper to a point. Lonicera caprifolium prefers sunny or partially shaded locations and well-drained soil, often used to cover fences, pergolas, or other garden structures due to its fast growth and ability to provide a dense green screen.
The plant is prized in landscaping not only for the beauty and fragrance of its flowers but also for its ability to attract pollinators, including bees and butterflies, thus contributing to garden biodiversity.
