Hypoestes phyllostachya Confetti 2-3 culori/ghiveci
Hypoestes phyllostachya, also known commonly as the "freckle plant", is a decorative perennial plant from the Acanthaceae family, native to Madagascar but also found in other tropical regions of Africa and Asia. It is especially valued for its brightly colored foliage and is grown both indoors and in gardens in warm climates.
Botanical characteristics:
• Habit: a small to medium-sized herbaceous plant with a compact, branched growth. In its natural environment, it can reach 50-60 cm, but in ornamental cultivation it is kept at heights of 20-30 cm through pruning.
• Leaves: oval, opposite, with a slightly pointed tip, soft texture, and smooth edges. The leaf surface is covered with spots or speckles in bright shades of pink, red, white, or violet, contrasting with the green base color.
• Flowers: small, tubular, pale purple or lilac, relatively insignificant compared to the foliage. They appear in summer but are rare in indoor cultivation and often removed to encourage vegetative growth.
• Roots: fibrous, shallow, well adapted to pot cultivation.
Growing conditions:
• Light: prefers bright indirect light. In insufficient light, the foliage becomes greener and loses its characteristic contrast. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves.
• Temperature: ideal between 18–24°C. Does not tolerate cold or drafts.
• Soil: slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained, based on peat and perlite.
• Watering: regular, keeping the soil slightly moist but without waterlogging. Can tolerate short dry periods, but leaves will wilt quickly.
• Humidity: prefers moderate to high atmospheric humidity. In dry environments, periodic misting is helpful.
• Pruning: recommended to pinch the tips to encourage branching and prevent leggy growth.
📌 Note: The leaves of Hypoestes phyllostachya may show small natural imperfections, slight marks, subtly defined edges, or variations in pattern intensity caused by handling, transport, or adaptation to the new environment. These aspects are normal and do not affect the plant’s viability.
