Hoya incrassata 'Albomarginata'

Hoya incrassata 'Albomarginata' is the commercial name retained for the marginally variegated selection correctly known as Hoya incrassata 'Eclipse'. This species is a tropical vine native to the Philippines, valued for its vigorous growth, waxy foliage, and intensely fragrant flowers. Its bright foliage remains decorative even outside the flowering period. The white umbels are an additional ornamental feature. An easy-to-love cultivar. A calm presence on any shelf.

Foliage and name. The leaves are firm and elliptic to oval, with a green center and very light green, cream, or white margins. The variegation is marginal, of the outer-variegated type. The width and pattern of the light-colored areas may vary between nodes; green streaks may appear along the margins, and some leaves may have areas that are almost completely white.

'Albomarginata' describes the appearance of the margins, but it is not the accepted name of the cultivar. The correct name is 'Eclipse', established when the selection was introduced in 2006. The existing selling name is retained for continuity and recognition.

Growth, flowers, and fragrance. The plant has a climbing habit and can be trained onto a support. Under good growing conditions, it produces full umbels with numerous small, reflexed flowers. The corolla is creamy yellow, with reddish-brown tips, while the corona is white. The fragrance is strong and spicy, with a citrus note often described as lemon; the exact perception may vary.

Green peduncles should not be removed after flowering, as they may produce new buds. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.
