Eucalyptus citriodora, botanically classified as Corymbia citriodora, is a shrub with unique properties, widely used due to its characteristics. It is a remarkable species that should not be missing from enthusiasts' collections. The plant is native to Australia, like the vast majority of Eucalyptus varieties.

The Scent. As its name suggests, the foliage of this plant has a distinct and strong lemon scent when the leaves are crushed or moved/shaken, due to the presence of a compound called citronellal. In the presence of a stronger wind, the plant can scent a fairly large area even outdoors. It is also used in the perfume industry.

Natural Repellent: Eucalyptus citriodora is known for its insect-repelling properties (a strong repellent), especially against mosquitoes. The oil extracted from the leaves is often used as a main ingredient in a wide range of mosquito protection products and more.

Plant Characteristics: it grows as a tall tree, which can reach sizes of 25-50 meters under ideal conditions. The mature leaves are lance-shaped, pale green, long and waxy – however, when young they are lighter in color and very downy. The size of the plant can be controlled by pruning.

Medicinal Use: Eucalyptus citriodora oil has been used in traditional remedies for various ailments, including respiratory ones, due to its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.

Use in Aromatherapy: Due to its pleasant scent and relaxing properties, the oil is often used in aromatherapy for relaxation and calming.

Other known names: lemon-scented gum

It does not require special soil and is resistant to diseases and pests, being naturally considered "pest free". It withstands temperatures down to -18 °C without needing protection during winter. In case of harsher frost, the leaves fall but the plant recovers in the next growing season.

Height including pot: approx. 35-50 cm (varies depending on the season). In the cold season, plants are pruned to encourage branching.

Pot diameter: 15 cm

In the warm season, these plants may arrive with affected foliage (tips/dry leaves) – this is due to transport and represents only an aesthetic flaw.

Recommendation: We recommend planting the eucalyptus in the garden or in large pots placed outside during the summer. It is an outdoor plant and does not do well long-term in small pots. Do not expose the plant to strong sunlight before planting.
