Episcia cupreata ‘Silver Screen’

Episcia cupreata ‘Silver Screen’ is a striking tropical cultivar from the Gesneriaceae family, related to the African violet, grown mainly for its decorative foliage as well as its delicate flowers. Native to the tropical regions of Central and South America, Episcia is a small-sized plant with low, creeping growth, ideal for window boxes, terrariums, or hanging pots.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

• Light: Prefers indirect or filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. In a well-lit spot, leaf color and flowering will be more vivid.

• Watering: Steady but careful. Keep the soil slightly moist without excess. Water preferably at the base of the plant to avoid leaf spotting. It does not tolerate prolonged dryness but is also sensitive to waterlogging.

• Soil: A loose, well-drained mix, ideally one for African violets, based on peat and perlite.

• Humidity: Requires high air moisture to develop properly. Ideal for terrariums, mini-greenhouses, or humid indoor spaces (e.g., a bathroom with natural light).

• Recommended temperatures: Warm and steady. Protect the plant from cold drafts and low temperatures.

🔹 Care and use:

• Pruning: Can be lightly pruned to encourage a compact shape and prevent stem elongation. Creeping stems root easily and can be replanted.

• Propagation: Very easy, by runners or stem cuttings that root upon contact with soil.

• Use: Ideal for low decorative pots, plant bowls, hanging baskets, or terrarium arrangements. Can also be used as an edging plant in tropical greenhouses.
