Citrus aurantifolia 'Red Lime' H75 cm
Citrus x aurantifolia 'Red Lime' (also known as Red Lime, Lime Rosu, Lime Rossa, Red-fleshed Lime, or Pink Lime) is a special variety of lime, especially appreciated for the spectacular appearance of its fruits.
The plant is a small evergreen shrub or tree, with spiny branches and small, glossy, deep green leaves. The flowers are small, white, and very fragrant. What makes this variety special is the fruit pulp, which at maturity takes on an intense and attractive pink-red color. The fruits are small, round, with a thin green-yellow peel, and the pulp is juicy, with a sweeter and less acidic taste than the common lime.
Main features:
- Fruits with intense pink-red pulp (decorative appearance when cut)
- Sweeter and more aromatic taste than classic lime
- Large fruits (compared to classic lime), juicy and decorative, sometimes sweet
- Fruiting period: can bloom and bear fruit almost all year under good conditions
- Fragrance: intensely aromatic flowers and leaves
- Size: 2–3.5 m tall (remains smaller in a pot)
Easy care:
- Light: full sun (minimum 6–8 hours per day)
- Temperature: warm. Must be protected from frost in winter (ideally 8–15°C in a bright place)
- Watering: regular, allowing the substrate to dry partially between waterings
- Substrate: special for citrus, well-drained
- Fertilizing: regular with citrus fertilizer during the growing period
Uses: Red Lime is highly valued both for its decorative appearance and culinary use. Due to its pink-red pulp, the fruits look spectacular when sliced and are ideal for drinks (lemonades, cocktails, mojitos), desserts, garnishes, or plate decoration. The sweeter taste also makes it suitable for people who prefer milder flavors than classic lime.
An attractive and productive variety that combines usefulness with a special decorative look. It looks very beautiful both on the terrace, in the greenhouse, or in a bright indoor space.
Height including pot: approx. 75 cm
