Camellia × williamsii 'EG Waterhouse' is an evergreen shrub prized for its double, pale pink flowers, up to 10 cm in diameter. This variety was originally developed in 1923 at Caerhays Castle, Cornwall, by John Charles Williams, by crossing the species Camellia japonica and Camellia saluenensis .

Care instructions:

Light: Prefers partial or full shade, ideal for gardens with northern or western exposure. The plant should be protected as much as possible from the strong summer sun, which burns its leaves and buds.

Soil: Requires acidic or neutral, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid excess water which can cause root rot.

Protection: Place the plant in a place protected from cold, dry winds, as buds and flowers can be affected by frost and cold winds.

Mulching: Apply a layer of mulch made from leaves or shredded bark to the base of the plant to maintain moisture and protect the roots.

Pruning: After flowering, perform a light pruning to maintain shape and remove damaged or diseased branches.

Flower: Camellia × williamsii 'EG Waterhouse' generally blooms from late winter to spring , usually between February and April , depending on the climate.

The flowering period can last between 6 and 10 weeks , depending on environmental conditions and the health of the plant. Unlike other camellia species ( Camellia sasanqua ), which can also bloom in the fall, 'EG Waterhouse' does not bloom in the fall , being a spring-specific variety.

To prolong flowering, it is recommended to keep the plant or plant it in a partially shaded location, ensure constant humidity, and protect the buds from late frosts.

Cold resistance:

'EG Waterhouse' is hardy in zones 7-8, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C . However, in regions with late frosts, it is recommended to protect the plant from the morning sun to prevent damage to the buds and flowers.
