Brighamia insignis (Hawaiian Palm Tree) – planta exotica rar intalnita, cu silueta sculpturala
Brighamia insignis, commonly known as the Hawaiian Palm Tree or Vulcan Palm, is a spectacular plant native to Hawaii, valued for its thick, succulent trunk and crown of glossy leaves. Its unusual appearance makes it a focal point in any indoor plant collection.
🌿 Botanical Features
- Full name: Brighamia insignis
- Family: Campanulaceae
- Origin: Hawaii (strictly endemic species)
- Plant type: succulent with a “palm” growth habit
- Foliage: glossy green, arranged in a rosette at the top of the stem
- Flowering: delicate yellow flowers (flowering indoors is rare)
🌞 Light
Prefers bright areas with plenty of indirect light. Avoid strong direct midday sun, which can burn the leaves.
💧 Watering
Moderate watering, only after the substrate has partially dried. Brighamia stores water in its stem, so overwatering is the biggest risk.
🌡️ Temperature
Ideal between 18–28°C (64–82°F). Does not tolerate cold and must be protected from temperatures below 12°C (54°F).
🌱Soil
Very well-drained substrate with a high percentage of mineral materials (pumice, perlite, sand). Perfect for xerophytic plants and succulents.
🌿 Secret Garden Recommendation
👉 For excellent drainage and healthy roots, use Secret Garden’s professional substrate for cacti and succulents – an airy mineral mix ideal for species that require rapid water evaporation.
⚠️ Note: Leaves may show small imperfections or transport marks. These characteristics are normal for species with sensitive leaves and do not affect the plant’s viability. Also, the plant may lose leaves when adapting to a new environment – a natural adjustment process.
