Begonia 'Black Forest' is a spectacular ornamental variety, especially appreciated for its dramatic foliage, with elongated, deeply cut and intensely colored leaves. The leaf surface ranges from very dark green to chocolate brown, scattered with numerous silvery-white spots, while the undersides of the leaves and the petioles display reddish to burgundy tones.

Its exotic appearance and the strong contrast between the dark leaves and the bright spots make this begonia a highly decorative collector's plant, suitable for bright interiors, Begonia collections or tropical plant arrangements.

🌿 Botanical characteristics

  • Commercial name: Begonia 'Black Forest'

  • Family: Begoniaceae

  • Plant type: perennial tropical plant, valued for its foliage

  • Elongated, asymmetrical and deeply lobed leaves

  • Very dark green to chocolate-brown coloration

  • Numerous silvery-white spots on the leaf surface

  • The undersides of the leaves may have red-burgundy shades

  • Petioles and stems in reddish shades

  • Compact to well-branched growth

  • Each leaf may display a slightly different pattern

☀️ Growing conditions and care

  • Light: prefers medium to bright, indirect light. Good light helps maintain the contrast of the leaves, but intense direct sunlight can cause scorching.

  • Watering: moderate; keep the substrate slightly moist, but allow the top layer to partially dry out between waterings.

  • Substrate: loose, airy and well-draining, able to retain moderate moisture without becoming waterlogged.

  • Humidity: appreciates moderate to high atmospheric humidity, together with good air circulation.

  • Temperature: prefers consistent temperatures, approximately 18-26°C.

  • Fertilization: moderate during the active growing period.

  • Caution: avoid excess water, stagnant water around the roots and frequent wetting of the leaves in poorly ventilated conditions.

🌱 Recommended substrate

For Begonia 'Black Forest', we recommend a fine, airy and well-draining substrate that retains moderate moisture while allowing good oxygenation of the roots. An overly compact or constantly wet mixture may contribute to root system deterioration.

📌 Note: The shape of the leaves, the intensity of the background color, and the size and distribution of the silver spots may naturally vary from one specimen to another, as well as depending on light conditions and the stage of development.

Begonia leaves are delicate and may show minor scratches, tears, dry edges, spots, creases or other cosmetic imperfections that occur during growth, handling, transport or adaptation to new environmental conditions. The plant may occasionally lose one or more leaves during the acclimatization period, without this automatically indicating a viability issue.
