Agris rosu fara spini - Ribes uva-crispa 'Spine Free' (crescut 100% biologic)
Red gooseberry without thorns - Ribes uva-crispa 'Spine Free' - a very popular variety due to its superior quality fruit, firm, crisp, and juicy, with a distinctive aroma - the flesh is sweet and fragrant while the skin is tart, and also because it is a cultivar almost free of thorns.
The fruits ripen in mid-summer, and the yield is very high. It grows and bears fruit quickly, within 1 year of planting. The fruit is suitable both for fresh consumption and for jams, preserves, or other preparations.
Ribes uva-crispa 'Spine Free' prefers partially shaded, cooler locations. During the warm season, the plant appreciates additional watering. It grows upright in the form of a vigorous bush, reaching up to 120 cm.
Self-fertile variety - does not require planting another specimen for pollination. Does not need special soil and is resistant to diseases and pests, being naturally considered "pest free". It withstands extreme temperatures down to -35 °C.
Height including pot: approx. 30 cm
This variety is not 100% thornless - it develops much rarer and smaller thorns, especially on old, woody growths (generally at the base). For this reason, old branches are pruned in autumn.
Plants for garden or terrace are grown in unprotected spaces or with minimal protection (shade nets or hail nets). For this reason, naturally, they cannot have perfect foliage - leaves may show marks, defects, or other damage.
During the cold season, the plants enter a period of vegetative rest.
