Aeonium arboreum are strange succulent plants, with long, curved stems and leaves shaped like rosettes, which often look so perfect that you might think they are fake.
There are about 35 species of Aeonium, most of which are native to the Canary Islands. These plants prefer a Mediterranean climate - not too warm, not too cold, not too dry.
The plants form fleshy rosettes and you will notice a resemblance between Aeoniums and other succulents, most notably Echeveria and Sempervivum.
Like most succulents, Aeonium plants grow best in full sun to partial shade. In hot summers, some light shade may be necessary.
Although Aeonium tolerates a variety of soil types - as long as they are well drained, it prefers loose and porous soil. For the garden, we recommend a moderately moist environment with good drainage for the Aeonium plant.
This plant tolerates drought and hates water around its roots, so be careful to avoid overwatering. In the wild, these succulents are inactive during the summer, so the lack of rain during the warmer months allows the plants to dry out between waterings. During winter, reduce watering to once a month.
Aeonium thrives in temperatures between 5 and 38 degrees Celsius. During winter, Aeoniums grow best with night temperatures of 10 °C.
