Full description and specifications

Orbea variegata is a succulent plant from the Apocynaceae family, originally from South Africa, also known as "starfish plant" or starfish plant, due to its unique flower shape. It is appreciated for its exotic appearance and for its interesting flowers, but it also needs specific care to thrive.

  • Light: Orbea variegata prefers strong and direct light. In its natural environment, the plant grows under the strong African sun, so in the house or garden, you must give it as much light as possible. It can also tolerate partial light, but the flowers can be less spectacular.

  • Watering: Like any succulent plant, Orbea variegata needs moderate watering. Let the soil dry completely between waterings. During the rest period, during the winter, the plant should be watered even less often.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining mixture, especially for succulents or cacti. A soil that retains water can cause root rot.

  • Temperature and humidity: Prefer warm temperatures, typical for the Mediterranean or subtropical climate. It does not tolerate temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. Moisture is not a major problem as long as the soil is well drained.

  • Fertilizer: Fertilizer is not strictly necessary, but you can use a diluted fertilizer for succulents during the period of active growth, spring and summer.

  • Transplantation: Repot the plant every two years or when it has outgrown the current pot, to ensure sufficient growth space and fresh soil.
