Sedum Burrito, also known as Burro’s Tail or Donkey’s Tail, is an ornamental succulent from the Crassulaceae family, valued for its long, decorative stems filled with small, fleshy leaves arranged densely. The plant has a trailing appearance, which is why it is often grown in hanging pots or on the edges of tall stands.
Main features:
• The stems have a pendulous growth and can reach considerable lengths over time.
• The leaves are oval, green-gray or green-blue in color, with a waxy coating that retains moisture and gives them a matte appearance.
• The flowers, although rare in indoor cultivation, can be small, in shades of pink or red, and develop at the tips of the stems.
Recommended growing conditions:
• Light: Preferably strong light, even direct sun for part of the day, but sudden exposure to very intense sun should be avoided if the plant is not accustomed to it.
• Temperature: Sedum burrito grows well at moderate temperatures and tolerates cooler periods, but it is not frost-resistant. The minimum tolerated temperature is around 0°C to -2°C for very short periods, only if the substrate is completely dry. Exposure to lower temperatures leads to tissue damage and plant death.
• Watering: It is a succulent plant that stores water in its leaves, therefore it needs infrequent watering. The substrate should be allowed to dry partially between waterings. Excess water can cause root rot.
• Soil: A special mix for cacti and succulents, well-drained, is recommended to prevent water accumulation around the roots.
• Fertilization: A small dose of fertilizer for cacti or succulents, applied occasionally during the growing period, is sufficient.
• Care: The fragile stems can break if the plant is handled frequently. Broken parts can easily root for propagation.
With its original appearance and relatively easy maintenance, Sedum Burrito is preferred by those who want to add a splash of color and texture to their plant collection, whether it is a sunny balcony, a terrace, or even a bright corner indoors.
