Grafted vine - Vitis 'Schuyler'
Vitis 'Schuyler' is a hybrid grapevine variety developed in 1947 at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station at Cornell University. It was created by crossing Vitis vinifera 'Zinfandel' grapes with Vitis labrusca 'Ontario' hybrids, being appreciated for its high tolerance to cold and for its aromatic fruits with a good balance between sweetness and acidity , used both for winemaking and as table grapes. The variety is the result of efforts to combine the positive characteristics of European and American Vitis species, to produce robust, adaptable varieties with a good balance between sweetness and acidity, ideal for red wine production. 'Schuyler' contributed to the development of other hybrid varieties such as 'Cayuga White' and 'Horizon', having a significant role in the diversification and improvement of grape varieties grown in North America and beyond.
