Vita de vie altoita - Vitis 'Schuyler'
Vitis 'Schuyler' is a hybrid grapevine variety developed in 1947 at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station of Cornell University. It was created by crossing the grapes Vitis vinifera 'Zinfandel' with the hybrids Vitis labrusca 'Ontario', being valued for its high frost tolerance and its flavorful fruits that present a good balance between sweetness and acidity, used both for winemaking and as table grapes. The variety is the result of efforts to combine the positive traits of European and American Vitis species, to produce hardy, adaptable varieties with a good balance between sweetness and acidity, ideal for red wine production. 'Schuyler' contributed to the development of other hybrid varieties such as 'Cayuga White' and 'Horizon', playing a significant role in diversifying and improving grape varieties grown in North America and beyond.
