Full description and specifications
Trichodiadema Bulbosum (African Bonsai) - endemic caudiciform succulent from South Africa. The plant stands out for its fascinating growth style - although it reaches a relatively small height, the caudex continues to grow, taking on very spectacular shapes.
The leaves are small and "fluffy", covered with fine white hairs, and the color varies between intense green and gray-green, being influenced by the season and microclimate.
The flowers are pink-lilac with a yellow-white middle and the size of approx. 2 cm. Flowering takes place during the warm season, between March and October, but it can also occur sporadically in the cold season, especially in the case of indoor cultivation.
Trichodiadema Bulbosum has a good tolerance to watering and can survive long periods without water (specific to plants with caudex). Watering should be correlated with the positioning of the plant and the level of light in which it is grown - prefer partially sunny locations. A substrate with good drainage is recommended. It can withstand temperatures of -4 degrees - mature, acclimatized specimens can tolerate even mild winters outside.
The caudex of a mature plant ends up developing approximately 20-30 cm in the soil and 20-30 cm on the surface. The height of the plant, including the crown, can reach 60 cm, especially in the case of specimens grown from cuttings.
Fun fact: The roots of Trichodiadema species have been used over time to speed up the fermentation of dough and drinks.
