Why choose peat-free growing media? Their production does not involve extracting peat from wetlands — a natural resource that takes thousands of years to form and releases massive amounts of CO2 when excavated, while also causing significant damage to ecosystems. Culvita Potgrond is made from 100% recycled and renewable materials, which means a much lower environmental impact, but also a higher production cost. You pay a little more for a growing medium that does not destroy ecosystems.

🌍 Why choose a peat-free growing medium

Peat has traditionally been used for its ability to retain water and nutrients. Culvita Potgrond replaces peat with a combination of recycled and renewable materials, thereby reducing the product's associated carbon footprint.

However, one important characteristic should be taken into account: peat-free growing media retain less water and fewer nutrients than traditional peat-based media. For this reason, plants may require somewhat more frequent watering and fertilisation.

💧 How to use

• Loosen the contents of the bag before use.
• Moisten the plant's root ball thoroughly before transplanting.
• Use a container with drainage holes.
• Add growing medium, position the plant and fill around the roots.
• Leave approximately 1–2 cm below the rim of the pot.
• Water thoroughly after planting, allowing excess water to drain completely.

Important: peat-free growing medium can dry out faster than conventional growing medium. Check the moisture more frequently and avoid allowing the mix to dry out completely for extended periods.

🌿 Fertilisation

The included organic fertiliser works for approximately 60–90 days, depending on temperature, watering and growing conditions. Because organic fertiliser is not released as evenly as mineral fertiliser and peat-free growing medium has a lower capacity to buffer nutrients, additional fertilisation may be needed earlier than with conventional growing medium.

📌 Note

As a peat-free growing medium, it may require more frequent watering and fertilisation compared with conventional growing medium. Do not allow the mix to dry out completely for long periods.

The growing medium may sometimes feel slightly warm to the touch. This is normal and occurs because the raw materials may temporarily continue certain biological processes after packaging. This does not affect product quality.

Because it is made from natural materials, there may be slight differences in texture, moisture, density, compaction and volume between packages.
