Culvita Potgrond is a universal peat-free growing medium, designed for planting and repotting a wide range of indoor and outdoor plants.

Why choose peat-free growing media? Their production does not involve extracting peat from bogs - a natural resource that takes thousands of years to form and releases massive amounts of CO2 when excavated, while also causing significant damage to ecosystems. Culvita Potgrond is made 100% from recycled and renewable materials, which means a much lower environmental impact, but also higher production costs. You pay a little more for a growing medium that does not destroy ecosystems.

🌿 Features

  • Manufacturer: Culvita
  • Product type: universal peat-free growing medium
  • Peat-free
  • Made 100% from recycled and renewable materials (biofibres, compost, wood fibres)
  • Aerated structure, promoting root development
  • Contains lava meal
  • Contains organic fertiliser
  • Initial fertilisation for approximately 60-90 days
  • Reduced carbon footprint compared with conventional peat-based growing media
  • Suitable for a wide range of indoor and outdoor plants

🌱 Composition

The main components are:

  • biofibres;
  • compost;
  • wood fibres;
  • lava meal;
  • organic fertiliser.

Combining these materials helps create a lightweight, aerated structure that allows roots to develop properly. According to the manufacturer, lava meal also helps improve plants' resistance to diseases and pests.

🌍 Why choose a peat-free growing medium

Peat is traditionally used for its ability to retain water and nutrients. Culvita Potgrond replaces peat with a combination of recycled and renewable materials, thereby reducing the product's associated carbon footprint.

However, an important characteristic should be taken into account: peat-free growing media retain less water and nutrients than conventional peat-based growing media. For this reason, plants may require somewhat more frequent watering and fertilisation.

🪴 Recommended for

  • indoor plants;
  • balcony and terrace plants;
  • annual plants;
  • seasonal plants;
  • perennial plants;
  • pots and planters;
  • hanging baskets;
  • many ornamental outdoor plants.

Specific growing media with an adapted pH are recommended for acid-loving plants.

💧 Directions for use

  • Loosen the contents of the bag before use.
  • Thoroughly moisten the plant's root ball before transplanting.
  • Use a container with drainage holes.
  • Add growing medium, position the plant and fill around the roots.
  • Leave approximately 1-2 cm below the rim of the pot.
  • Water thoroughly after planting, allowing excess water to drain away completely.

Important: peat-free growing medium can dry out faster than conventional growing medium. Check the moisture more frequently and avoid allowing the mixture to dry out completely for extended periods.

🌿 Fertilisation

The included organic fertiliser acts for approximately 60-90 days, depending on temperature, watering and growing conditions. Because organic fertiliser is not released as evenly as mineral fertiliser and peat-free growing medium has a lower nutrient-buffering capacity, additional fertilisation may be needed earlier than with a conventional growing medium.

✨ Advantages

  • 0% peat
  • 100% recycled and renewable materials
  • a more sustainable choice for growing plants;
  • reduced carbon footprint compared with conventional peat-based growing media;
  • aerated structure;
  • promotes root development;
  • contains organic fertiliser for approximately 2-3 months;
  • contains lava meal;
  • suitable for many indoor and outdoor plants.

📌 Note

As a peat-free growing medium, it may require more frequent watering and fertilisation compared with a conventional growing medium. Do not allow the mixture to dry out completely for long periods.

The growing medium may sometimes feel slightly warm to the touch. This is normal and occurs because the raw materials may temporarily continue certain biological processes after packaging. This does not affect the product's quality.

As it is made from natural materials, there may be minor differences in texture, moisture, density, compaction and volume between packages.
