Stapelia leendertziae is a succulent native to South Africa, known for its spectacular, bell-shaped, dark burgundy to purple flowers with a velvety texture and dramatic appearance. It is an unusual collector's plant, perfect for enthusiasts of rare succulents and exotic flowers.
The stems are fleshy, stellate in section, with lacy edges and a deep green hue. The plant forms a low, spreading bush, and in good conditions blooms in the warm months, producing large, solitary, waxy flowers that immediately catch the eye. Like other stapelia, the flowers may emit a slightly unpleasant odor, designed to attract specific pollinators from its natural habitat.
