Smochin - Ficus carica 'Little Miss Figgy' (cultura biologica)
Ficus carica 'Little Miss Figgy' (Ficus carica 'Majoam') - an exceptional, compact cultivar (small size) suitable for narrow spaces or growing in large pots. At maturity, the plant reaches a height of up to 1.8 - 2 m and a crown diameter of up to 1.2 m. It is also known as Ficus carica 'Majoam'.
Ficus carica 'Little Miss Figgy' is a natural mutation of the 'Violette de Bordeaux' variety, discovered in 2010 by Michael Nobles in his garden in South Carolina, and later patented.
The fruit stands out for its distinctive, sweet-aromatic taste and intense, almost black color. The fruit's skin is medium-thick and pleasantly fragrant, and productivity is high. Fruits ripen throughout the July-September period. Branching can be stimulated by pruning the tips.
Garden hardiness. It withstands temperatures down to -20°C without significant damage. Hardiness increases as the plant matures, the root system develops, and the branches thicken. It is recommended to protect the plants in the first years by wrapping them with microporous film (frost protection film, Agril-type film, etc.). Frost damage in fig trees affects the aerial parts, but the roots remain alive, and the plant regrows in spring.
Disease and pest resistance. Fig trees are considered ‘pest free’.
Parthenocarpic variety - it is self-fertile and does not require a pollinator.
