Calycanthus 'Hartlage Wine' - Orchid Tree - flori mari, parfumate
Calycanthus (Sinocalycanthus) 'Hartlage Wine' - a highly ornamental hybrid named after the student Richard Hartlage, who achieved the crossbreeding between Sinocalycanthus chinensis (a Chinese species) and Calycanthus floridus (a U.S. species) in 1991 at the JC Raulston Arboretum of North Carolina State University.
This resulted in a sensational plant, with a large flower (approx. 7-8 cm), burgundy, which has a pleasantly sweet fragrance. Also, this hybrid shows very good cold resistance.
The plant’s appearance changes dramatically in late spring, when it is practically covered with fragrant flowers.
Other known names: Strawbusch, Orchid Tree, Sweetshrub
Cold resistance: -25°C
Height including pot: approx. 45-60 cm (varies depending on season and horticultural work)
Pot diameter: 17 cm
In the cold season, plants are sold leafless, pruned to encourage branching.
