Saxifraga X Arendsii Marto™ Red Picotee

Saxifraga × arendsii Marto™ ‘Red Picotee’ is a decorative variety of hybrid saxifrage from the Saxifragaceae family, valued for its pink-red flowers with sharply outlined edges and for its dense, dark green foliage with a cushion-like appearance. It belongs to the Marto™ series, known for compact, hardy plants with abundant flowering, ideal for alpine gardens, low borders, and pots.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

• Habit: A perennial plant, with low growth and a compact bush shape. The height is about 10–15 cm, and the bush diameter can reach 25 cm. It forms a dense and tidy green carpet.

• Leaves: Small, finely divided, dark green in colour, with a slightly glossy texture. The leaves are evergreen and form an attractive decorative base throughout the year.

• Flowers: Rise on thin, upright stalks above the foliage, blooming in spring (March–May). The flowers are rounded, of an intense pink to red, with darker edges (the “picotee” effect), creating a subtle and elegant contrast. The flower centre is pale yellow. Flowering is abundant and offers a striking visual effect.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

• Light: Prefers partial shade or filtered light, but can also tolerate direct sun in milder climates. Excessive sun exposure may cause leaf drying.

• Soil: Well-drained, loose, slightly acidic to neutral. Ideal for stony or sandy soils typical of rock gardens.

• Watering: Moderate. Water when the soil has slightly dried on the surface. Does not tolerate excessive moisture or waterlogging.

• Hardiness: A hardy plant, frost-resistant, perfect for gardens in temperate climates. Withstands temperatures down to about -20°C / -25°C, depending on soil conditions and drainage.
