The 'Blackberry Nip' rose won the award for the most fragrant rose at the "Rose of the Year" competition in Auckland in 1999. It also received the "Silver Star of the South Pacific" at the national rose competition in Palmerston North in 1998, which was the highest award given to an amateur grower up to that time.
