Plectranthus ernstii ('Bonsai Mint') - frunze parfumate
Plectranthus ernstii, also known as "Bonsai Mint" or "Elephant's Food," is a slow-growing semi-succulent plant species belonging to the Lamiaceae family. This plant is native to South Africa and is popular among lovers of succulent plants and bonsai due to its attractive appearance, with a stem that seems segmented, resembling a bonsai.
The "Bonsai Mint" grows up to about 30 cm tall and has thick, succulent, light green stems. The leaves are small, round, and fleshy, with a gray-green shade and a soft downy texture. They emit a mild minty scent when rubbed, hence the common name "Bonsai Mint."
During the flowering period, the plant produces small, tubular flowers in white or pinkish-lilac, arranged in ascending clusters resembling spikes.
Plectranthus ernstii is an easy-to-care-for plant and prefers well-drained soils rich in organic matter. It is drought-tolerant and requires moderate watering, with the soil needing to dry out between waterings. It prefers partial sun exposure or strong filtered light. Exposure to temperatures below 10°C is not recommended.
