Opuntia inamoena is a species of cactus native to Mexico, part of the Cactaceae family. The cactus can reach considerable size and produces yellow or red flowers, which are followed by edible fruits.

Care instructions

Being a desert cactus, Opuntia inamoena requires a well-drained environment and dry conditions to grow properly:

🌿 Light: Preferably intense direct light . Exposure to at least 6 hours of sun per day is recommended.

🌡️ Temperature: Tolerates temperatures between 5-40°C . Can survive short periods of frost, but is sensitive to high humidity in the cold season.

💧 Watering: Very little! Water once every 2-3 weeks in summer and once every 4-6 weeks in winter. Excessive watering can lead to root rot.

🌱 Substrate: Extremely well-drained soil, ideally a mixture for cacti, based on sand, gravel and perlite , to prevent water accumulation.

🌿 Fertilization: Apply a cactus fertilizer (NPK 5-10-10) once every 2 months during the growing period (spring-summer).

🪴 Transplantation: Required every 3-4 years , to allow root development and renew the substrate.

Warning! It is recommended to handle with thick gloves, as the spines and glochids can cause severe skin irritation.
