This impressive cultivar of Magnolia was obtained by the botanist Vance Hooper, passionate about the genus . Magnolia "Genie" is the result of 15 years of breeding in a line of Magnolia soulangeana and Magnolia liliiflora, resulting in a compact hybrid that produces large masses of huge flowers, with free flowering for a period of 3 months.
The plant is extremely cold-resistant - which means that there is little chance that the flowering will be lost due to late frosts.
