Lycium barbarum 'Sweet Goji' (Sweet Berry) is the variety with the sweetest fruits, obtained through selections made by producers and botanists.
Characteristics and care instructions:
- Resistant to drought as well as frost (down to -25 degrees Celsius)
- All soil types are suitable, except sandy soil.
- Place in full sun or partial sun.
- Goji can generally be pruned to the desired height at any time. The harvest time can be delayed by pruning later in the season, for example in May.
- Flowering period: May - June.
First appearing in China, Goji berries are extremely nourishing and have been used as medicine for years, but they are also very useful in the kitchen. These fruits contain many vitamins and thus belong to the "Super Fruits" category. They are also delicious when dried.
Their nutrients include amino acids, carotene, rutin, and polysaccharides, which are said to have properties related to anti-aging and counteracting vision loss, respiratory problems, and dizziness. The Chinese claim that regular consumption of Goji berries will keep the body young.
