Limequat Lyvia (kumquat x lime) D14
Limonella is a cross between Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) and Kumquat with round fruits (Citrus japonica) - thus resulting in a very juicy and aromatic fruit, with high acidity, but quite sweet, with fewer seeds than a kumquat. It has a very high concentration of vitamin C. It is considered an intensive cultivation hybrid, because it has the ability to bloom and bear fruit all year round.
The fruit of the Lyvia is yellowish-green, oval and slightly larger than other Eustis Limequat varieties. While, unlike limes, the fruit can be eaten whole, it remains an interesting ingredient for cocktails, lemonades or as a unique garnish/plate design element.
This hybrid was first obtained by the American botanist Walter Tennyson Swingle in 1909.
All citrus fruits that we sell are edible as a species (i.e. they produce fruits that can be eaten), with the caveat that some producers (such as Citrina) obtain additional certifications for cultivation for consumption as "edible fruits".
