Leptospermum scoparium, also known as manuka or the New Zealand tea tree, is a shrub or small tree from the Myrtaceae family, native to Australia and New Zealand. It varies in height, reaching from 2 to 5 meters depending on growing conditions. Leptospermum scoparium is valued for its delicate flowers, usually in shades of white or pink, which bloom in spring or early summer. The flowers are small, with five petals and a prominent center full of stamens.

The leaves are small, lance-shaped or oval, with finely serrated edges on some varieties, dark green in color, and arranged alternately on the branches. The plant has dense growth and can be used for ornamental purposes, for creating hedges, or as a solitary plant in gardens.

Leptospermum scoparium is also known for its medicinal properties, especially for the honey produced by bees that pollinate its flowers, known as manuka honey. This honey is prized for its antibacterial and healing qualities and is used in various health and personal care products.

The plant prefers well-drained soils and sunny locations but can tolerate a wide range of soil and climate conditions. It is relatively drought-resistant once established and requires little care, making it a popular choice for gardeners seeking a low-maintenance plant.
