Hortensie japoneza spectaculoasa - Hydrangea serrata 'Preziosa'

Hydrangea serrata 'Preziosa' is one of the most beautiful and appreciated mountain hydrangea varieties, famous for the spectacular color change of its flowers, independent of soil pH.

The shrub has a compact, rounded, and well-branched habit, reaching 1–1.5 m in height and width. The leaves are oval, serrated (with toothed edges), dark green, with purple shades when young and an intense red coloration in autumn.

The flowers appear from July to September, in the form of round (mophead), dense inflorescences. They go through an amazing color transformation:

• Starting with pale green and cream-yellow shades
• Becoming cream-white
• Turning delicate pink
• Changing to cherry red
• Reaching intense burgundy/red in autumn

This "multicolored flowers" effect on the same plant is extremely attractive and long-lasting.

• Watering: regular (does not tolerate prolonged drought)
• Pruning: done early spring, only dead branches removed (blooms on old wood)
• Winter protection: mulching at the base recommended in the first years

Hydrangea serrata 'Preziosa' is an excellent choice for Romanian gardens due to its compact size, long flowering period, and spectacular color changes. It looks great in borders, mixed groups, near terraces, or in large pots. It is an elegant, hardy hydrangea with a strong visual impact throughout summer and autumn!
