Hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris, also known as climbing hydrangea, is a woody perennial plant native to East Asia, especially Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. This plant belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family and is characterized by its ability to climb vertical surfaces such as walls, fences, or tree trunks.

The climbing hydrangea grows as a shrub and can reach heights of up to 9-12 meters when grown in good conditions. Its leaves are oval, dark green, with toothed edges, and the small flowers are grouped in large clusters, similar to those of other hydrangea species. The flowers are white or cream, with a delicate and elegant appearance, and bloom during the summer, offering a remarkable visual display.

Hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris is a hardy and easy-to-care-for plant. It prefers places with partial shade or half-shadow and well-drained soils rich in humus. This hydrangea species needs a support to climb on (fences, pergolas, etc.) and can attach to vertical surfaces using aerial roots.

Plants for garden or terrace are grown in unprotected spaces or with minimal protection (shade nets or hail nets). For this reason, naturally, they cannot have perfect foliage – leaves may show marks, defects, or other damage.

During the cold season, the plants enter dormancy, are pruned, and are leafless.

Frost resistance: down to -20°C

Pot size: 11 cm
Height including pot: approx. 40 cm (varies depending on the season)
