Hoya mitrata ‘Silver’ is a silver-foliaged selection of the species Hoya mitrata (family Apocynaceae), native to Southeast Asia (Borneo). The form is also known as Hoya mitrata sp. Buntok Silver.
Botanical characteristics:
- Flowers: Approximately 2.5 cm in diameter. Ivory / cream, sometimes with a pink tint, with a white corona and a red spot in the center. The shape resembles a mitre. 10-20 flowers per umbel. Sweet, mild fragrance. Lasts for over a week.
- Habit: Epiphytic vine with long shoots. Large leaves, 12-16 cm, broad, concave, silver-white on the upper surface (dense splash) and almost black underneath. Warm-growing, requiring bright filtered light.
- Features: A collector's selection, valued especially for the silver / black contrast of its leaves. Flowering is secondary to the foliage, but typical of the genus.
