Hoya memoria, full pots - 12 cm pot

Hoya memoria is a species native to the Philippines, published in 2004 by Kloppenburg. It circulated as Hoya gracilis, but that name belongs to a distinct species from Sulawesi. The foliage is narrow, with silver splash. The growth habit is pendent. The flowers are pink, with a red corona and yellow center, and have a caramel fragrance. The name refers to Memorial Garden in Manila. The fragrant flowers complement the decorative foliage.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are narrow and elliptic, with pointed tips. The green surface is sprinkled with irregular silver spots. The intensity of the splash varies from one leaf to another. Young leaves may temporarily have reddish tones, which fade as the leaf matures. The stems are thin and flexible; the shoots do not twine around a support on their own and must be guided if the plant is grown upward.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are borne in umbels of 15–25. The corolla is pink to reddish pink, with reflexed, finely pubescent lobes. The corona is red, with a yellow center. The fragrance is sweet, described as caramel-like. The flowers produce little nectar and may last for up to approximately one week. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted botanical name is Hoya memoria Kloppenb., published in 2004. The species is native to the Philippines. Hoya gracilis Schltr. is an accepted species from Sulawesi.
