The ficus is recognized by NASA for its air-filtering properties. The ficus can effectively filter pollutants typically emitted by carpets and furniture, including benzene, trichloroethylene, and formaldehyde.

Care:

1. Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sun exposure can burn the leaves, while low light can lead to slow growth and loss of vigor.
2. Watering: Watering should be moderate. Wait for the top layer of soil to dry before watering again. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.
3. Humidity: It benefits from high humidity but also adapts well to normal indoor conditions. Occasional misting can help maintain humidity, especially in winter months when indoor air becomes very dry.
4. Temperature: It does well at typical indoor temperatures, between 18-24°C. Avoid exposure to cold drafts or large temperature fluctuations.
5. Fertilization: Fertilize the plant during the active growth period (spring-summer) with a balanced indoor plant fertilizer, applied once a month.

6. Additional care: Wipe the leaves periodically with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep the leaves shiny and healthy. You can also trim the tips to encourage denser and more compact growth.
