Ficus binnendijkii 'Alii' (Banana leaf fig) - 2-3 plante/ghiveci
Ficus binnendijkii 'Alii' (also known as Ficus Alii) is a modern and highly appreciated variety of ficus, easier to care for than Ficus benjamina. It stands out with its long, narrow, lance-shaped leaves, giving it an elegant, vertical, and refined appearance, resembling a small tree.
Unlike the classic ficus with small, round leaves, 'Alii' has longer leaves (up to 25-30 cm), glossy dark green with a fine texture. The plant has a more upright and less branched form, making it very suitable for medium to tall spaces.
Main features:
- Long, narrow, and elegant glossy dark green leaves
- Vertical and refined tree-like shape
- Slower and more controlled growth than Ficus benjamina
- More tolerant of indoor conditions (medium light and dry air)
- Less prone to leaf drop
- Size: 1.5 – 3 m tall (in pot at maturity)
- Air-purifying plant
Easy care:
- Light: medium to bright indirect light. Tolerates lower light better than Ficus benjamina but looks best in good light.
- Temperature: optimal between 16–28°C. Does not tolerate temperatures below 12°C for long periods.
- Watering: moderate – allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings. More resistant to short dry spells than other ficus varieties.
- Humidity: medium (also tolerates dry indoor air well).
- Soil: well-drained, slightly acidic.
- Fertilizing: light feeding from spring to autumn with fertilizer for green plants.
Uses: Ficus binnendijkii 'Alii' is an excellent ornamental indoor plant. Due to its vertical and elegant form, it is very suitable for living rooms, offices, hallways, or medium-height spaces. It looks great both alone and in groups. It is one of the most recommended ficus options for those who want a sophisticated-looking plant that is easier to maintain than Ficus benjamina.
Note: When moved or exposed to new environmental conditions, the ficus may lose some lower leaves. This is normal, and the plant recovers quickly once stabilized.
An elegant, modern, and relatively easy-to-grow variety, ideal for those seeking a refined-looking ficus with low maintenance.
