Ficus benjamina ‘Golden King’ is a perennial ornamental shrub from the Moraceae family, native to the tropical regions of Asia and Australia. It is a decorative variety of the species Ficus benjamina, noted for its variegated foliage and elegant appearance. The plant can reach a height of 2-3 meters indoors, and in natural conditions it can grow much taller, taking the form of a tree.

The leaves are small to medium-sized, elliptical, with a pointed tip, and have a glossy texture. What distinguishes the ‘Golden King’ cultivar is the cream-yellow or light green edge of the leaves, contrasting with the deep green center. This variegation gives it a bright and attractive look, ideal for decorating modern or classic indoor spaces.

The stems are flexible, usually thin and densely branched, and the plant can be easily shaped by pruning or by weaving the stems (into a bush, small tree, or bonsai form). Ficus benjamina ‘Golden King’ prefers strong but indirect light; insufficient light can lead to loss of variegation or leaf drop.

The ideal soil is well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral. Watering should be moderate, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. The plant is sensitive to cold drafts and sudden temperature changes. Moderate to high air humidity is beneficial for the health of the leaves.

Ficus benjamina ‘Golden King’ also has air-purifying properties, often included in lists of plants beneficial for living spaces or offices. It is a popular indoor plant due to its elegant appearance and ease of care, as long as light and watering conditions are respected.
