Eucalyptus pulverulenta 'Baby Blue' is a spectacular variety originating from Australia, appreciated for its rounded, silvery-blue foliage and intense eucalyptus fragrance. It is a compact, evergreen, highly branched shrub with rapid growth and excellent resistance to low temperatures.

Unlike other eucalyptus species, 'Baby Blue' is a dwarf variety that, under normal conditions, does not exceed approximately 3 metres in height, making it suitable both for gardens and for growing in large pots.

Uses

The foliage is highly valued in floral arrangements and bouquets due to its distinctive colour and long-lasting fragrance. The plant tolerates pruning very well and regenerates quickly, producing new branches.

Due to the essential oils contained in its leaves, eucalyptus is known as a natural repellent for flies and mosquitoes and is frequently planted on terraces, beside pathways or in gardens.

In some countries, this species is also cultivated for its very hard wood, as well as for natural extracts used in products with antiseptic, repellent or insecticidal properties.

Growing conditions

  • prefers full sun and open spaces;
  • adapts easily to most soil types, provided they have good drainage;
  • is highly resistant to diseases and pests and is naturally considered a pest free species;
  • tolerates temperatures down to approximately -18°C without additional protection.

In the event of very severe frost, the leaves may fall, but the plant will resume growth during the following season.

Secret Garden recommendation

We recommend planting the eucalyptus directly in the garden or growing it in large pots placed outdoors during the warm season. It is intended for outdoor cultivation and will not develop properly over the long term in small pots or indoors.

After purchase, avoid exposing it suddenly to strong sunlight. Gradually acclimatise the plant before planting it permanently.

📌 Note

  • The appearance of the leaves may vary from one specimen to another. As the plant matures, the leaves naturally change in shape and size.
  • Some specimens may have leaves or branches with cosmetic defects or affected new growth, especially during the warm season. These issues are caused by international transportation and are frequently encountered in this sensitive variety, without affecting the plant's viability.
  • Although mature plants tolerate temperatures down to approximately -18°C, we do not recommend exposing young specimens to temperatures below -5°C until they are well rooted and acclimatised.

Height including pot: approximately 70-80 cm.
