Episcia ‘Malayan Gem’

Episcia is a genus of tropical perennial plants, related to the African violet (family Gesneriaceae), valued both for their ornamental foliage and for their colorful, delicate flowers . Native to Central and South America, these plants are ideal for growing indoors in warm, humid places.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

• Habit: Creeping or creeping plant, forming dense mats. It is ideal for hanging pots or as a ground cover plant in terrariums.

• Leaves: Decorative, velvety , with varied patterns and spectacular colors – green, bronze, silver, burgundy or with contrasting edges. The leaves are oval and have obvious veins.

• Flowers: Small, in shades of red, orange, yellow, pink or purple , with a tubular shape and delicate petals. They can appear throughout the year, especially in optimal light and humidity conditions.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

• Light: Prefers indirect but bright light . Direct sun can burn the leaves. Grows well in artificial light.

• Soil: Light, well-drained, rich in organic matter – ideal for a mix for African violets.

• Watering: Moderate – keep the substrate slightly moist, but not soaked. Avoid watering directly on the leaves.

• Temperature: It feels good in warm and stable environments. It does not tolerate temperatures below 15°C for long periods of time.

• Humidity: High – fine misting, use of water trays, or cultivation in terrariums is recommended.

• Fertilization: Every 2–4 weeks during the active period, with diluted fertilizer for flowering plants.

• Propagation: It propagates easily through stolons (shoots) that root upon contact with the soil , but also through stem cuttings.

• Toxicity: Considered non-toxic to humans and pets.

• Use: Suitable for hanging pots, terrariums, indoor gardens and spaces with high humidity .
