Elaeagnus ebbingei 'Viveleg' (Russian Olive, Silverberry, Variegated Oleaster) - fructe comestibile
Elaeagnus x ebbingei 'Viveleg' is a hybrid between Elaeagnus pungens and Elaeagnus macrophylla, introduced in 1929 in the UK. Elaeagnus x ebbingei 'Viveleg' is a special cultivar with variegated foliage, very decorative.
Flowers: It produces small, fragrant flowers, white or cream in color, but these are generally not the main focus of the plant.
Fruits: It produces edible fruits, the size of olives or cherries, which ripen early in spring, usually at the end of March - beginning of April. The fruits are aromatic and taste reminiscent of black cherries.
Hardiness: It is a very hardy plant, able to tolerate a wide range of soils and climatic conditions, including drought. It withstands well down to -15°C. Planting is recommended in areas sheltered from strong winter winds.
