Echinocereus viridiflorus is a unique and fascinating cactus, notable for its rare, lime-green or yellow-green flowers , an unusual feature in the world of cacti. This small cactus is native to North America , being widespread in the arid regions of the United States (Texas, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska) and Mexico , where it adapts perfectly to drought conditions and rocky soils.

With a cylindrical appearance, covered in fine, golden-yellow or brown spines , Echinocereus viridiflorus is extremely cold-resistant , withstanding low temperatures, which makes it ideal for xerophytic gardens and rustic cactus collections. In addition to its spectacular flowers, this cactus can exude a discreet, sweet fragrance, attracting pollinators in its natural habitat.

Care instructions

This hardy cactus requires high light conditions and minimal watering, making it perfect for desert-inspired gardens and well-lit interior spaces:

🌿 Light: Requires direct sun for at least 6 hours a day . Can tolerate partial shade, but flowering will be less frequent.

🌡️ Temperature: It tolerates extreme temperatures between -20°C and 40°C , being one of the few cold-resistant cacti.

💧 Watering: Minimal! Water once every 2-3 weeks in the warm season and once every 5-6 weeks in the winter, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

🌱 Substrate: Very well-drained soil, consisting of sand, gravel and perlite , to prevent excessive water retention.

🌿 Fertilization: Apply a weak fertilizer for cacti (NPK 5-10-10) once every 2 months during the growing period (spring-summer).

🪴 Transplantation: Required once every 3-4 years , to give the roots space and renew the substrate.
