Dafin comestibil XL
Laurus Nobilis, also known as bay or laurel, is a tree or shrub native to the Mediterranean region. It is highly valued both for its ornamental worth and for the use of its fragrant leaves in cooking.
The leaves are lance-shaped, dark green, glossy on the surface and duller underneath. They are frequently used in the kitchen to flavor various dishes.
Regarding care, Laurus Nobilis prefers well-drained soil and a sunny or partly shaded position. It is drought-resistant once adapted to its environment but prefers regular watering during the warmer months. It is resistant to most types of pests and diseases, making it relatively easy to maintain.
Laurus Nobilis does not tolerate very low temperatures. Generally, it is considered hardy down to about -7 degrees Celsius, although this figure can vary depending on soil and moisture conditions. In areas where temperatures may fall below this threshold, it is recommended to plant Laurus Nobilis in a sheltered spot or to use protective methods, such as covering the soil with a layer of mulch to help insulate the roots.
If the plant is kept in pots and exposed to temperatures below freezing, there is a risk of root frost. In this case, it is advisable to move the pots indoors where the temperature does not drop below zero.
Symbolically, the laurel has often been associated with victory and success, being used in laurel wreaths awarded in ancient times to persons of great merit or heroes.
